François BEGEOT

Biography

François Bégeot is an economist and demography specialist with a wealth of experience and education. He started his career in the private sector in France, where he worked in marketing and consulting.

Since 1988, he joined the European Commission where he held various key positions. He worked in the field of external relations, including managing EU financial aid to Albania, and was also involved in Bulgaria’s EU accession negotiations.

From 2005 to 2010, François managed the South-Eastern Transport Observatory for the Western Balkans, and participated in the drafting of the EU-Western Balkans Transport Treaty. Previously, he worked at Eurostat from 1988 to 1995, specializing in demography and census.

François’ education includes degrees from the University of Strasbourg and the Catholic University of Louvain, as well as graduation from the Strasbourg Institute of Political Studies.

He speaks several languages including English, German, Turkish, Bulgarian and Albanian, and enjoys fencing, sailing and gardening.

Chairman (2018-2023) and vice-chairman (since 2014) of the “Food and Drink Choice” competition organized in Tashkent by MydayTV.

Currently retired and resides in Tashkent.
